About NIOS syllabus 2025
Whenever I meet with NIOS students to discuss their study, Many students often say “curriculum is vast” even though their delivery system of study material is “quite slow “, and “How can I complete the entire lesson in a short time”?
Don’t worry, the National Institute of Open Schooling has reduced the exam syllabus for Secondary and Senior secondary course. The curriculum is now divided into two parts. The TMA chapter is 40% of the syllabus, while the public exam is 60%.
That means if you are preparing for the public exam, you don’t need to learn the TMA chapter.
This change reduces the pressure on students by focusing only on the selected chapters.
This change was introduced by NIOS as per Notification No. F-76-2/2023/NIOS/Acad., dated 25.07.2023, issued by Rajiv Kumar Singh, Director (Academic). The notification states:
In consonance with the recommendations of the NEP 2020, NIOS proposes to reduce the curricular load at both secondary and senior secondary levels in all subjects, including all language subjects.
This has been done by bifurcating the curriculum into two sections: 1. Foundation lessons to be assessed through TMA only. 2. Certification lessons to be assessed through term end/public examinations.
Note: This revised syllabus pattern was first implemented in the April 2024 exams and continues to apply to all upcoming exam sessions, including October 2025.
